Autobiography: an autobiography by me (no one is redundant these days...)
Having a terribly, short attention span has taught me to be brief in life. So here are some things about me that you probably would (not) like to know:
-
Hi.
-
I'm Meenakshi. At Starbucks, I go by Phoebe. At Blaze Pizza, I go by Samantha. Ideally, I want to have a fake name at every major, corporate, food-service place and create mundane havoc.
-
I'm currently a student at UNC Charlotte.
-
English Literature major who is obsessed with Jane Austen and Dorothy Parker but no so much with Ernest Hemingway (he's not a bad writer; but just how many people actually mean it when they say Hemingway is their favorite?)
-
I also have a minor is women and gender studies which means I'm always angry during the month of November (and every other day in my life because Patriarchy™).
-
My other minor is legal studies because we're out here trying to change the policies because apparently those boomers can't be bothered.
-
-
My storytelling timeline:
-
My vivid imagination meant daydreaming during school hours since preschool. I found it endearing. My mom and the teachers who complained to her did not.
-
I call it story telling; you probably call it lying. It's fun being the one of three brown kids in class which means I can make up all sorts of stories and everyone's internalized racism just buys into it like the fools they are. Plus, its fun to tell the popular girl who bullied you for your thick eyebrows that she's going to die at 35 after you've"read her palm."
-
Books became a part of my life in the sixth grade, and I learned that magic does exist, and it came in the form of words.
-
My passion for books accelerated in high school and said passion basically became the gateway drug to writing. I spent my Wednesday nights going to a local writing workshop group for teenagers and weekends writing on Wattpad (I know. Cringe. But the important thing was that I wrote).
-
Pressure to get into college came around, and my relationship with writing became distant. No one deserves to be in a relationship where they are not treated with love and dedication. Especially not writing.
-
College came, I realized that I am doing myself a disservice. And now, I'm back.
-
-
I love:
-
John Mulaney (even if he did kill Princess Diana),
-
Coffee,
-
Books,
-
End of list.
